Sports is part of the education. So we shouldn't do away with it. In fact I think a little more insistence that academic students participate in some form of sports would not be amiss.

But no one should be allowed to continue his tenure in a college if he can't get qualify for an credible academic degree. Colleges and universities shouldn't raise a crop of dimwitted sports monkeys solely as an recruiting aid. If students attend a university on the strength of its sports teams, they probably won't make very good students anyway.
