It's especially egregious when you try to claim Jesus and Yahweh are the same person, so you're not left with the excuse that the guy you're worshiping is a different guy that has to be subservient to the overlord as much as you do. The "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" guy is the same guy as the "kill them for not worshiping me" guy.
I think the New Testament is more horribly off-putting than the Old Testament. The worst OT god could do is to kill a person who wouldn't suck up to him. The god of the New Testament threatens to torture such people for ever and ever and ever.
Makes me think that anyone who has actually read the bible and believes it yet still claims to "love" god is either too stupid to understand what they've read OR is just a nasty, vicious person who strives to model himself after the way the cruel, hateful bible god is depicted therein — not somebody I'd stoop to associate with, much less take advice from.
