There seems to be so little effort to tell new stories these days. At every turn on every medium (movies, TV, etc.) people seem content to rehash old tales, maybe providing some new spin or maybe just retelling the old yarns with new actors. Not everywhere, in fairness, but it seems like a rut in modern entertainment.
It's weird how superhero comics from the big two now aim mostly for the "mature" readers demographic and not kids and teens. Superman is a character for kids, and as much as I like Batman he's in the same boat as Superman. Kids really don't have a Batman anymore. From the little I've seen of Batman comics, for example, it mostly panders to "mature" readers. I can't imagine kids wanting to see the Joker with his face cut off.
