I got a quick question.
Why can't God do whatever plan he is doing without giving AIDS to babies and having them die a hideous death? I would say that is "logically possible". If he can't stop it, he's not anywhere close to being a god. If he can but he insists on it, he's a monster. These children are not learning anything, they're not being tested, they're being tortured and killed.
I tell you what I think is going on. Theists want there to be a god. However, the reality before them is clearly incompatible with a god that isn't evil. So they come up with these ridiculous arbitrary rules that God has to "work around" in order to still be really good. And those arbitrary rules just happen to result in exactly the horrible state of affairs the world is in. Or else they blame us. The God is so petty, vengeful and angry that he beats the shit out of us while blaming it on our shortcomings that he is responsible for. He "has" to give us free will involving bad choices, knowing we will make those bad choices. For some reason he can't just let us have multiple good choices that don't harm anyone.
It's a ludicrous cop out. If a caring god was in charge, the world would not be like this. If you have to pretend there is somehow all these bullshit restrictions on what he can do, and these restrictions just happened to be there for no apparent reason, you're simply making up whatever you need to tell yourself to reconcile a loving God with a suffering world.
You're reducing god's powers and his intents to be in line with him not existing at all, so his effects are indistinguishable from nothing, so he can't be proved to not exist and you can carry on believing.
In other words, it's a fantasy you won't let go of, you work in whatever details you have to in order to keep it going. And when science finds out yet more stuff, you'll arbitrarily work that into the story too I'm sure.
