The problem we have, is that it's pander or don't get nominated. On the left, the base doesn't have it's own candidates. The NAACP isn't going to find a culturally black candidate for them to support. Same with the hispanic population. Whatever Dennis Kucinich represents exists, but whatever that is, doesn't have much clout. With no candidates representing those groups, they can be ignored until it's time to drag them to the polls for the general election. Meanwhile on the right, we've got the Tea Party and the Christians, and both can't wait to get their moron up on stage to support with their 50% of the republican vote.
I'm guessing whatever conservatives have going on in the UK, they don't have to deal with the same dynamic.
