Piercings are certainly not practical.
Not only would I never get a piercing, I never wear a ring because it is not comfortable. Consequently, I don't own any rings.
If it does not serve a practical purpose, I don't want metal touching my skin. I don't know why anyone would. But, to each his (or her) own.
