My grandmother was my best friend but I still don't understand her fascination with Liberace.

I think to understand it, you might want to read about him:

And think about the era in which he was popular, what else was available at the time, and also about your grandmothers' tastes generally.

I don't expect that to get you to like Liberace (and if I did, I probably would not be posting any of this), but I think it is understandable why some people did like him.

I don't dislike him but I think my grandmother had a bit of a crush on him. That is what I meant by fascination.
