Skipper,
It's not possible to blame God for making you an atheist, because that wouldn't make you an atheist anymore, would it?
He gave you a choice to believe or not to believe.
It might appear to be irrational for God to keep disbelievers in Hell for eternity. On the other hand, I think it's equally irrational to disbelieve in Him just for that reason, especially if you know that there is a slightest chance of Hell existing. So, I think it balances out in the end pretty nicely. If you're going to be irrational in your beliefs then He's going to be irrational with you also. And by rejecting the idea of Hell, you have also rejected the greatness of God's punishment, so that's why He's going to prove to you that you're wrong by actually giving you what you disbelieved in (since you want proof so badly). And once you're in Hell then it's too late to do anything. So it's better to start believing right now while you're still alive.
If there was no Hell, then no one would care about religion and people could do whatever they want, but still go to Heaven. Then there wouldn't be any purpose in telling us to worship Him and do good deeds because there is nothing to struggle for if everyone goes to Paradise. Also, remember that God can forgive almost any sin if you repent to Him sincerely. He is more merciful to the believers.
