It would have hardly been the catastrophe that Ryan and Pittman suggested to support their 'Noah's Ark' claims. Even then, it seems unlikely that people living near the water's edge would not have been able to move away as the water rose. One assumes that our ancient ancestors would not stand there and drown.....I hope.
Besides, the Ark story which was stolen and incorporated into the OT seems to have Mesopotamian origins and the Tigris and Euphrates do flood on occasion. Evidence for such floods has been found.
