Red Dragon (the film) is one of the worst remakes I've ever seen. Without spoiling it for you, I just want to say the specific change as to how Graham comes to his revelation is beyond contempt. Beyond contempt. Hannibal's part is also completely turned on its head. Let's just say, Graham does not go to see him a second time for very good reason - yet the remake ignores this, and yet still expects the audience to believe what happens later!
As for the TV series, if Harris wants to continue to piss on his legacy that's up to him. Graham is a forensic investigator for the FBI - he's not a criminal profiler. He helped to solve two cases (Hobbs and Lecter) and Lecter was by blind luck. It had nothing to do with profiling - he remembered a specific fact of the case, a minute detail that caused him to link the crime to Lecter - that's how it's described in the book and in Manhunter. He had never seen Lecter a day in his life beforehe caught him - same for Hobbs, same for Dolohyde. The idea that he would "buddy up" with Lecter is ridiculous. In the TV series, suddenly he's a criminal profiler who solves case after case involving serial killers. What's even worse is that Hannibal - who killed 5 or so people before he was caught - has now an even bigger death toll than he managed to rack up in that awful, awful book "Hannibal Rising". Lecter's cruelty to animals as a child was also completely contradicted in Hannibal Rising.
