Red Dragon (the film) is one of the worst remakes I've ever seen. Without spoiling it for you, I just want to say the specific change as to how Graham comes to his revelation is beyond contempt. Beyond contempt. Hannibal's part is also completely turned on its head. Let's just say, Graham does not go to see him a second time for very good reason - yet the remake ignores this, and yet still expects the audience to believe what happens later!

As for the TV series, if Harris wants to continue to piss on his legacy that's up to him. Graham is a forensic investigator for the FBI - he's not a criminal profiler. He helped to solve two cases (Hobbs and Lecter) and Lecter was by blind luck. It had nothing to do with profiling - he remembered a specific fact of the case, a minute detail that caused him to link the crime to Lecter - that's how it's described in the book and in Manhunter. He had never seen Lecter a day in his life beforehe caught him - same for Hobbs, same for Dolohyde. The idea that he would "buddy up" with Lecter is ridiculous. In the TV series, suddenly he's a criminal profiler who solves case after case involving serial killers. What's even worse is that Hannibal - who killed 5 or so people before he was caught - has now an even bigger death toll than he managed to rack up in that awful, awful book "Hannibal Rising". Lecter's cruelty to animals as a child was also completely contradicted in Hannibal Rising.

Hey so I watched episode one now and it was good! Very strange... but good. Dark and weird. What did I expect?

Eerily similar to the Reformation. I'd keep my distance until the dust settled.

I've watched a couple more episodes... hmm. I'm not feeling it as much as the previous seasons.

I reviewed the start of Season 3 here are my thoughts.

1. There are no surprises, just as I thought it would start "loosely" following the Hannibal story (the 3rd book/film) even though it's set before Lecter is caught.

2. I don't understand why Lecter and Du Maurier are posing as husband and wife. I don't think it adds anything to the story.

3. Abigail Hobbs allows herself to be killed by Lecter (in fact so does Graham), the opening to season 3 re-affirms this and this is again just bizarre.

4. Hannibal's motives are less than believable in this series. We've come a very long way from the Hannibal that was described in the novels. And moreover, they should have ignored Hannibal Rising since even Harris seems to agree was a horrible mistake. Just as they should have ignored anything from the Red Dragon film, and specifically I'm taking about Graham being a profiler instead of a forensic investigator and working with Lecter when the book says the meet for the second time in the incident where Graham tries to arrest him (and he doesn't try to do it himself as in that horrible film either, he calls for backup). And he doesn't work it out because there's an open book on the table, he works it out from seeing the titles of books on Hannibal's shelf and remembering "wound man" which is an illustration that appears in at least one of the books on Lecter's shelf, and bears resemblance to one of the victims. See, he works it out forensically - not by profiling!!!

5. Graham is also a very different character to the one in the book because SPOILER: Lecter sends him insane from within his own cell in Red Dragon! He sends Francis Dolarhyde to go kill him for revenge (or perhaps out of spite), and goodbye happy family life for Graham he spends the rest of his days living out of a bottle.

So yeah, all Harris is doing at this point is pissing on his legacy, especially since series three isn't even interesting like the first one was.

Just watched the season 3 finale. So fucking good. Lots of unexpected twists, loved every minute. I hope they find a way to get the rights to SOTL and/or make a fourth season. Fuck NBC with a rusty cactus for cancelling it.

Is it worth it watching it through( I only watched the premiere of the latest season so far) since it's not sure whether they'll revive it or not? Meaning, are there any cliffhangers or the like? No spoilers please, but do tell me if it's worth it, please. I loved the show but the idea of it being it cancelled prematurely makes me reconsider finishing it.
