Gotta love the way atheists express their...what is it again...ah...their empathy with others.
Yes it is. If you look, you'll see that we're very empathetic with all manner of people: those willing to engage with us respectfully, those who value our autonomy enough to allow us to speak for ourselves, the disenfranchised and vulnerable...
And hey! There's also a trend for those who don't get our empathy: those who engage with us in dishonest or ad hoc ways, those who value being correct over our autonomy and the real suffering of other human beings...
It's almost as if our empathy is extended to those who have proven themselves capable of having it themselves, and restricted from those who are willing to treat others poorly and discard their empathy in favor of furthering their ideological agenda. Like, say, if someone were to say something incredibly callous and horrible in order to preserve an idea they like, and then wonder why everyone else is horrified and angry rather than being nice and respectful to him. Maybe that person has also had a sustained campaign of hypocrisy, lies and arrogance leveled at those others for weeks...
