Let's ask:
CL, are you open to any of the standard ideas and arguments put forward by atheists in support of their non-belief in God?

Let's just say I was old enough to see Van Halen live, before the split. What does it even matter? You christers like to claim that anyone who sincerely searches for gawd will find it. I did so, for years. I can't claim I ever actually believed, because I didn't. But, I sure fucking wanted to. Badly
So, you've got a guy who sincerely wants, and is searching for a sign, and (so you claim) an omnipotent, omniscient gawd that can give me exactly what I need in order to believe, yet has failed to do so? Either it doesn't exist or it's as malevolent as described in the old testament.
I just want to say I feel for you here.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
