Since the US is a country with millions of inhabitants with diverse religious beliefs, isn't it better to simply promote the separation of church and state? No one is dictating you must personally approve gay marriage - You can continue to promote traditional marriage/family as much as you want, and people who support you have the right to listen to you and applaud - People who disagree have the right to tell you you're wrong and explain why. That's how it works considering we can't all have the same ideas. I support the right of gays to get married, but I wouldn't oppose a Christian refusing to bake a cake for a gay ceremony as well, provided there was someone else to bake the cake - I also abhor the idea of forcing churches to accommodate gay marriage both for the well being of gays and because churches can have their own rules as they're independent institutions.
