I'll be the first to admit that I'm not as 'up' on Egyptian history as I could be, but last I heard no one had found actual evidence of Jews being slaves in Egypt, rendering the need for "Let my people go" pretty much moot. The whole Exodus story has been twisted around like a pretzel to fit certain geological events by plenty of people desperate to prove certain historical accuracies in the Old Testament.
All you really need to know is that most Jewish holidays follow the story of "someone oppressed us, somehow we got over it...can we eat?" Making a grandiose story about escaping slavery makes for a hell of a reason to eat a ton of really damn good food for a week.
