"Kidnappers must be put to death, whether they are caught in possession of their victims or have already sold them as slaves" - Exodus 21:16
Please explain how American slave traders adhered to that particular law?
More dishonest? say it ain't so.
Leviticus 25:44-46
However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way
Treating other people like property sounds like the American slave trade to me. Don’t you feel a little embarrassed calling someone dishonest when you’re the one who doesn’t know what you’re talking about?
You guys can't seem to get through your thick skulls that it was common practice for people to SELL THEMSELVES
Quote:Voluntary slavery (or self-sale) is the condition of slavery entered into at a point of voluntary consent. In ancient times, this was a common way for impoverished people to provide subsistence for themselves or their family and provision was made for this in law.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_views_on_slavery
Quote:Ancient Israelite society allowed slavery; however, total domination of one human being by another (as the Israelites suffered under Egyptian rule) was not permitted.[16][17] Rather, slavery in antiquity among the Israelites was closer to what would later be called indentured servitude
The Law clearly prohibits kidnapping or purchasing anyone that was kidnapped.
And before you guys get on your high horse, indentured servitude is not immoral... it's easy to judge while you live a life of privilege.
Indentured servitude still exists in Haiti. My mother-in-law, who is Haitian has servants living in her house. They cook and clean for room and board. It's either that or starve. There's few jobs in Haiti and the money's pretty much worthless anyway.
I'd like to hear what solutions you guys would offer....
