However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you.  You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land.  You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance.  You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way

Treating other people like property sounds like the American slave trade to me. Don’t you feel a little embarrassed calling someone dishonest when you’re the one who doesn’t know what you’re talking about?

Voluntary slavery (or self-sale) is the condition of slavery entered into at a point of voluntary consent. In ancient times, this was a common way for impoverished people to provide subsistence for themselves or their family and provision was made for this in law.

The Law clearly prohibits kidnapping or purchasing anyone that was kidnapped.

And before you guys get on your high horse, indentured servitude is not immoral... it's easy to judge while you live a life of privilege.

Indentured servitude still exists in Haiti. My mother-in-law, who is Haitian has servants living in her house. They cook and clean for room and board. It's either that or starve. There's few jobs in Haiti and the money's pretty much worthless anyway.

I'd like to hear what solutions you guys would offer....

Wait a minute, I'm supposed to be the atheist here, but when I quote what the bible has to say, you give me a website and talk about what they did in ancient Israel. I don't need to offer a solution. If what the bible says god told the Israelites means nothing to you then it sure as hell means nothing to me.
