Well, get used to it because that has almost certainly happened. I doubt our own civilization is any more than a few hundred years from it.

You should go back and re-read Fermi's Paradox. The whole point he makes is that it's NOT that big. A single technological civilization could colonize an entire galaxy in a relatively short time - if they desired to.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
