So far, we have found 2000 extra-solar planets just in out galactic neighborhood. Stars with planets seem to the default, not the exception.

Yes, this article says:
"there are 100 Earth-like planets for every grain of sand in the world."
I can't even imagine how much that is, but it definitely makes for a good argument in favor of extra terrestrial life.
