Oh, you masters of earth and greenery, please tell this ignoramus, what is a Betula and why does it look like a birch..?
EDIT: Google is my friend, and obviously I wasn't too far off
So sorry Kayenneh, I spent 5 years doing Horticulture and it was drummed into us that common names were taboo! "You want to name something...then use the botanical name and that way no one will get confused"
This one is a 'White Birch' it apparently survives summers here in Perth better than any other of the species. This little one is only 5 years old (Almost 2 years in situ). The Mentha x piperita 'Chocolate' (http://www.herbcottage.com.au/chocolate-mint.html) is quite robust and can tolerate being burnt to a crisp with the hot winds and sun light.
Actually, when one thinks a bit about it all, not unlike yourself with your pharmacological knowledge?

Right this very minute? I would LOVE to have "snow on the ground" my garden may not be so happy about it.
What I have learnt of Maryland and that area of North Eastern USoA it must be lovely. Be glad you have cold rather than heat little one.
