Hmmm...don't laugh - it's been a LOOOONG time since I looked through a telescope at something (well besides someone's window, but I've since gotten therapy for that)... I think it looks like there are four or five that I would guess at (well, there's a pretty obvious one smack in your face, but the number includes that one).
I used to be fairly into astronomy as a child, until I got more interested in the myths associated with the constellations than in a lot of the science. It's more balanced now that I'm older. Your moon picture is fucking awesome.
How's your shoulder healing up? Funny you say that about winter - that was always the time people took me out for star-gazing where I used to live. Could be a huge factor in why I moved further south... [shiver]
Winter is when a lot of the die hard astronomers do their best work. No one to hassle you. Clear skies, low humidity, and lots of hot coffee. I may not be one of those this year until my shoulder heals (thanks for asking, by the way). I saw my surgeon yesterday for the first time since the operation. He showed me some before and after photographs he took. Wow. I knew I had a bone spur in my shoulder, but had no idea it was the size of a marble. Ouch! That explains a lot. Also, the cartilage tear I had was worse than I imagined. I'm still in a lot of pain, but taking some good painkillers for that. I just hope it doesn't drag on for too long.
