My nephew is 2 years and 3 months and is on the spectrum. You can tell he is normal intelligence, but his issues are with communication and social interaction. He still doesn't talk, isn't good with eye contact, and doesnt play with the other kids. He has therapy a few times a week and goes to a day care/school for toddlers so he can learn to be more social.
