Some hours ago I got a PM from user Prycejosh1987, titled "Bible contradiction?" that says:

Quote:Hi Im Joshua i read and study the bible. I dont think you understand the bible. You read verses and dont understand a thing. The bible says only the holy spirit can help you fully understand the word of god. Its true. Its possible that everything happened. For example if i say im older than 30 and then in another passage say i am younger than 40 it isnt contradiction as both statements are true. That is simplifying understanding text and relating it to me.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
