I totally agree. I think the general knowledge of parents is atrocious. This is made worse by a kind of arrogance that isn't interesting in anyone else's advice. I'm sure this isn't everyone, but I see it a lot.
Educating parents could help on so many levels. It's just a matter of getting them to put the effort in. They would generally be making lives easier for themselves, in the long run.
Rhythm: I agree with you there, if there is a critical situation where harm is ongoing, it may be necessary to do whatever it takes to remove the danger. Again I see that as different to post-event beatings. There are reasons behind the physicality beyond, "This is what you get."
