Well your second sentence in that paragraph proves your first sentence (and 3 to 4 hours? I was tearing my hair out before even 1 had elapsed!) Parents shouldn't indoctrinate their children or waste their time going to places to reinforce their misguided beliefs which would cause their children to need to be without them for that long on a regular basis. Beyond that, are there no such things as babysitters or other wholesome non-religious activities that children can be taken to while their parents are out doing whatever it may be? Sunday school is not a positive alternative if it's still reinforcing the same ideologies and stories their parents are getting. That's how you get fooled into thinking that Noah's Ark isn't a story about indiscriminate global genocide.
It just strikes me as, like the name says, astonishing that this goes over people's heads in such a spectacular fashion. Like there is literally no other valid way of doing anything. Closed-minded doesn't even begin to describe it adequately.

Ok, cool, thanks for your input.

I don't think you quite understand my point. There is a way you can easily take the Bible out of context. Just as our friend a few posts up has done. You have to take everything in context with the chapter. Else you could use it to craft almost any narrative you want. And there are some bits of the Bible that are very important, Take the gospels for example they were deemed so important that the same event was recorded by four different people.
What im trying to say is that if I were to believe in God and angels, and ignore what the Bible says about satan and lucifer I would be a hypocrite. And I do also like to look in between the lines. There is a passage in genesis that says, paraphrasing of course, The sons of God saw the daughters of men beautiful and mated with them. I mean that is amazing, is it talking about interspecies mating with angles and humans? Or did God create multiple strands/ or tribes of humans to give a decent sized gene pool. Sorry I get excited about these types of things But yea, lets get back on topic.

What I've never understood is why fundamentalists are convinced that the correct way to read the bible is as a contract between men and god. Otherwise, why take every small detail literally? There are lots of other ways to use the written word. To read the bible allegorically can yield a few good bits, though granted you have navigate large tracts of begetting and other sleep inducing passages. But to read every word as applying in this moment to whatever ails you .. that's just ridiculous.
