I honestly find it hilarious that he considers "beta" an insult. Presumably, he uses the word "Beta" as a reference to the phoenomenon of alpha and beta males in wolf packs (and also primates)
The funny thing is, in the research, "Beta males" are actually the second-in-commands to the alpha males, for Tropers, they're essentially The Lancers or The Dragons with shades of The Starscream, and they're individuals who can potentially fight for command of the tribe.
And it gets more ridiculous when one considers that the most famous example is in wolves, and it was popularised by the L. David Mech's 1970 book The Wolf. The funny thing is, less than 30 years later, he disavowed the whole alpha-beta-omega dynamic because he realised that the research supporting it was based on captive populations and not on wild wolves; in reality, wild wolf packs consist of a mating pair and their offspring (up until the age of three years).
There is still some evidence that it holds for primates, but even the research that exists suggests it's nowhere near as cutthroat as they think it does.
TL;DR: Human beings do not work that way, wolves do not work that way, primates kinda work that way, but Language sure as Hell does not work that way!
