I was never a fan, though I give him props for his charitable efforts and he was good in Scorsese's The King of Comedy.
Now, if you think his films were hard to bear (they were) but want some perspective on how bad things can get, check out Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla, an unredeemable piece of garbage I saw courtesy of my bad-film-obsessed son. It's every bit as awful as the title suggests but is marginally notable in that one of the main "actors" so obviously ripped off Lewis's film persona that Lewis successfully sued the actor and the film makers.
