Here's the thing about Aisha. Sunnis think she was very young when she married Mohamed. There are reasons why her being so young would make their claims stronger against the Shias. Not all Muslims regard the hadiths as authoritative, and the information about Aisha comes from the hadiths, not the Qu'ran. If Rayaan doesn't accept Aisha being so young and doesn't accept the hadith claiming she is as authoritative, then, even if he is a Sunni, the prophet he believes in was not a pedophile, or even a guy with lots of wives who married a young child. Since this is a subject Muslims don't agree on, perhaps Rayaan will simply state what he believes to be most likely true about Mohamed and Aisha.
I was a little surprised to find out Rayaan is a literalist though. I had the impression he would be less tradtional, a Neo-Sufi maybe, or a Quranist.
