From my limited understanding of this, I don't think that it would do no. The dutch seem to not recognise them as republic, but did so for Sovereign, and continued peace talks. I don't know a whole lot about it, so will do some homework

Apparently they are, you just can't eat lots of them as they can be toxic. Plus they taste real bad, so you probably wouldn't want to.
