I will never get married. Ever. I see absolutely no reason to involve the govt in my love life. Or give someone legal precedent to take 2/3 of my money (lawyers take a third, from what I hear from people who've been through divorce). And yes, I'm aware that if you live with someone long enough they may have some legal precedent to empty you out. Though I'm not sure how common this is.
All in all though, divorce is really always a good thing if you think about it. Despite the financial consequences, you are leaving someone you are unhappy with, or being forced to leave someone who is unhappy with you. Or, on rare occasion, two people unhappy with one another are deciding to call it quits.
If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth.
