Other groups - such as blacks - are treated poorly but do not have a disproprtionately higher rate of suicide.

Many people are racist. Almost everybody is transphobic ... even the people who think they aren't. It's the most ubiquitious bigotry there is. People who aren't racist, sexist or homophobic are still usually transphobic. What's more, racists may hate black people but black people is rarely portrayed as a disease. To treat transgenderism as a sickness is a self-fuilfilling prophecy. Keep telling somebody that they're mentally ill when they're not and you'll project your own anxieties onto them and then be like "See, I told you so." When you proved nothing but your own intolerance and ignorance.
