Yeah but most of us aren't indifferent to anyone's happiness short of complete strangers and when it's convenient. Even the drunk at the bus stop evokes concern in many of us.
But the happiness of complete strangers isn’t usually essential to your own.
You can be concerned about that drunk, but does his inebriation affect your happiness? In other words, are you made perpetually unhappy by the unhappiness of other people?
