Here is a god that creates a system, where some of us do not have the ability to believe he exists without being provided with evidence. And he did this with the advanced knowledge that we were destined for eternal torture for a finite thought crime.
That is the bottom line, that billions of people were created by this god with the advanced knowledge that they were destined for eternal torture, and Christians don't seem to have a problem with that.
It is indeed a great thing that this god does not actually exist. It is unfortunate that so many of his worshipers do.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
