Scold's Bridle

RE: Scold's Bridle
The fucked up thing is that this type of punishment was not legislated, so at any moment your husband could get upset at you and put that thing on you and parade you around encouraging the entire neighborhood to treat you like shit.

THIS is what the right wingers mean when they say "we are a Christian nation"... they point back to societies like this with the Pilgrims and they glorify their civilization...and some even want its return.

At least most of them don't know how bad what they follow really was. I'd rather live with well-intentioned, ignorant bigots than hateful, murderous bigots. (Though I'd rather just live with atheists and agnostics.)
What falls away is always, and is near.

Also, I am not pretending to be female, this profile picture is my wonderful girlfriend. XD

It's ONLY S&M if it's being consented to by all parties present. This is just torture.

Society and societies have been incredibly barbaric in the past... and the present.

People who reminisce about the good old days forget about lovely little fashion accessories like that (note my sarcasm). Then they turn around, look at current events, think the world is getting worse, and use it as "proof" that Jesus will return soon.
I have studied the Bible and the theology behind Christianity for many years. I have been to many churches. I have walked the depth and the breadth of the religion and, as a result of this, I have a lot of bullshit to scrape off the bottom of my shoes. ~Ziploc Surprise

That's old west slang usually written reckon or reckin'- To guess or think. "I reckon that'll do right fine."

"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post
