That's correct, but then where's the money in doing that though...Cool Shades....LOL

As far as which was better for networking and not etc. etc. I'm not going to disagree with you on that. I only took the C.S. classes back in college (92-96)..Never majored in it...Tongue I believe it was NT back then....

EVF...

How did you loose your games and computer???? I would have been devastated if I lost any of my collection..

I love call of duty, but CS was always in the background, so I tried not to get into too many other PC games. I don't play console, so I'm pretty out of date when it comes to any type X-box, PS2-3 etc. etc.

Also, just to clarify on the 80-81 computer.... It was not personally mine, it was the families. I was just the one that spent the most time on it back then....Smile

OS/2 1.0 had no network support at all, 1.1 which IBM didn't sell outside its own client base had SNA support for connecting to IBM Mainframes. OS/2 1.2 was the first to have a networking engine supporting TCP/IP and IPX/SPX.

The first OS/2 that the general audience could buy with network support was OS/2 2.0 after the break-up with Microsoft.

NT 3.1 inherited the OS/2 1.2 LAN Manager networking engine, coupled with the improved BSD TCP/IP Unix stack.

Fair enough but NT had networking from the very first indeed as I recall OS/2 derived much from NT because MS and IBM had some kind of agreement and MS (when they pulled out) had no choice but to honour it.

You are wrong in both respects (I can only assume you must be blind and historically ignorant as NT is not Windows 9x or a variant of it and was developed primarily by DEC's Dave Cutler as a serious competitor to UNIX and was based more on DEC's VMS and aspects of MS's co-op with IBM) ... I don't see this going well so let's just agree to disagree (I will continue it if you wish).

You know, you try your hardest to stay as as impartial as possible and look what happens.

Im just saying what I see. I know they rewrote most of the system for NT, this being a good thing though a more competent developer would probably have made the system a tad more modular so the entire system didn't come crashing down when something as minor as the GUI crashed. I may have been wrong about the problems origin, and I openly admit that was speculation on my part. However, if I was wrong about that then im affraid I dont understand.
How did the problems get there? how come when I logged into my family's vista computer, N amount of viruses started with me. If i proper user permissions layer was implemented it wouldn't have been possible for my siblings to set the computer (accidentally or otherwise) to do that. It certainly wasn't my doing, I don't use that computer very often.

Nope. Have a new computer. I also lost a 300 quid music program and a musical keyboard, a long with a 60 quid music program and cubase for like 40 quid I think it was.

Also all the money was made playing poker on that very comp I now don't have! Angry Sad

All my games I lost must have amounted to an awful lot too! Cos I had like 1000 of them so it would have amounted to like 1000£ if they were £1 each! But the average game must have been like £20! Some were cheaper cos they were like retro but some were more expensive cos they were newer!

So they must have been worth a few thousand £! Shock Sad

Holy Bajebus....Tongue

Yes, you lost in the tens of thousands when all said and done. Unbelievable.....I just hope you can get back to where you were.

My worst luck was about 10 years ago while attending Mardi-Gras in New Orleans. Some ass hat broke into my vehicle and stole every CD and CD player Deck I had. The Player was around $700, but in all honesty, I was more disappointed at the music I lost than the player.

It's possible I will get it all back, or some of it at least - but it's certainly not unlikely that I'll never get it back.

Windows is a user friendly system and allows you to do many thing s but IMO Microsoft cannot be responsible for users being idiots? You should look after the machine better ... my kids have done it for a long time (ever since they were about 5 and yes they were even good on Win 9x) because I built the configurations with care and took the trouble to teach them how to use their PC's.

Would you treat a car with the same disrespect people treat their computers? I think not.

That's not the point. If Microsoft have implemented a secure system with each user area properly isolated, then it would be impossible for my siblings to have done anything which would affect my user area in any way. Unless they had admin access. Which they don't.
