Dual core, Quad core??

It's EXACTLY the point ... it's like ANY machine, you (and it appears you and your family do this) treat it with disrespect (no consideration as to what it requires, what it is supposed to do) and you reap the benefits (you get viruses, adware and shit like that). I've dealt with dozens of machines exactly like that and in ALL cases it has been the user that is the problem ... as we used to say on help-desks (I've been on enough of them) it's another PEBCAK and that means it's YOUR fault and not MS's.

I do NOT get viruses. THEY get viruses and SOMEHOW they affect ME!

I copied that last part form the previous post because you don't seem to have read it correctly.

I read it correctly ... viruses JUST DON'T attack you they need a route in and you somehow must be allowing them in ... PEBCAK!

The route in is my siblings accounts. I don't use that computer for email, or web browsing. More can probably be done to shut down excessive processes though. I don't particularly use that computer for anything. My brother uses it an awful lot and I am left to clean up the mess. He does not have admin access and therefore any viruses he had running should only be able to affect his account and private files. When I come back to the computer I get all sorts of things happening which have no correlation to my own activities. You cannot explain this by simply passing me off as some idiot. Please do not insult me like that again.

I think I can give a decent analogy for this.

A car can be driven by a competent person without a seat belt on, however a seatbelt is provided because not all drivers are competent, and you may have someone crash into you. Wearing a seatbelt is life-saving in this instance.

A computer can be used by a competent person without a virus scanner, or without a decent permissions system. However, a virus scanner and permissions system should be provided, because other users are not competent, and could mess up your settings with a virus.

It should be Microsoft's responsibility to provide a permissions system that doesn't allow viruses (or anything else) to harm a competent user.

Look mate ... it ain't my problem if you let your computer be used by a bunch of people who don't know how to treat it with respect.

Computer security of ALL the computers in my house is MY problem and I've dealt with it ... they are ALL Windows machines and we don't get viruses! You (apparently) have one Windows machine, you let others you will not or cannot control use it ... that's YOUR problem and I stick by everything I've said.

I openly admit that its something you need to keep on top on on a windows system. My point is, on a system built with security in mind this isn't even an issue.

I'm excited now, I can see the end of this debate just ahead. Riveting prospect.

And I repeat that it is YOUR problem that you don't look after your systems, don't configure them properly and I AGAIN point out that I set up ALL of the systems in my house with a sensible configuration (all are domain members, all configured with the open source virus scanner Clamwin), make sure my users (my family) are aware of the dangers and let them get on with it ... we DO NOT get any virus infections that the systems can't easily deal with.

IOW logic dictates that the problem with you Windows installation is YOU and not the OS. PEBCAK!

Sure ... once you shut up or concede I'm right coz I sure as hell don't exist won't!

You are putting this a bit to black and white Kyu. If person A makes a mistake and messes up, it is not person B's fault but B still suffers from the consequences.

To come to your car analogy, even good drivers have accidents and passengers still can get hurt.

Maybe ...

... but based on my experience in helpdesk, of supporting people's PC's (especially PC's where everybody uses the same one) and the fact that I don't get these problems (none of my family do) I think it fair to say what I have.

If you drive on the wrong side of the road you get smashed, if you go to the wrong sites or do the wrong things (if you don't take care) you get problems. Not the OS's fault.
