That does make you feel quite small. Amazing!

Wow! That's really mind blowing.
Personally, it's not God I dislike, it's his fan club I can't stand.

wiki Wrote:Astronomers think there are a very large number of stars in the Universe. They estimate (guess) that there are at least 70 sextillion stars. That is 70,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, which is about 230 billion times the amount of stars in the Milky Way (our galaxy).

I have also heard there are 100 billion stars in our galaxy and there are 100 billion galaxies. Then there could be more than one Universe. The sums are similar. Give or take 30 sextillion. Note the word guess.

Apparently, our minds are incapable of compehending the size of our Universe. When we refer to our Universe, we are thinking of our Galaxy. In context, our Galaxy is our Universe, as anything beyond our own galaxy has no practical use to us. Maybe.

Imagine the possibilities.

Call me immature or lacking an attention span, but this just looked too amusing to not post:

Never noticed it before, but once you guys posted one after each other I did a double take. Interestingly both pictures are different (not just mirrored) since Sam's Brian is looking down whilst Overmars' Brian is looking at the viewer...

Oh well, now back to studying...

What I find most incredible is that when we look up at the night sky, we see thousands of stars, but when we look into the night sky with the HST, we see thousands of galaxies as if they were "stars" to us. Makes you realize that all the stars we see in the sky are in our galaxy alone, and that there are bigger galaxies out there with even more stars.

I honestly think this is one of the biggest arguments against a theistic God, at least the one whose followers claim it made the universe for us. This universe is simply too big, too complex, too astounding, and with galaxies that existed billions of years before us, to be made for us.

Now how is that for a reverse argument? The universe is too complex for a God to have made it for a single species Big Grin
