Because Hypocrisy is of course our middle name. As a species.

Remember, for instance, how the public wailing in North-Korea, a few months ago, was so ridiculed in the western media? While we in the west do exactly the same thing!

Have a look at this: scripted cheering Apple personnel, throngs of 'm, cheering at nothing in particular, mind you!, at the opening, today, of the Amsterdam Apple Store. Just to get adrenaline levels up, to make it an 'event':

I've noticed they do that at all the openings of Apple Stores the world over. From Shanghai to, well, Amsterdam. No different really than scripted wailing North-Koreans 'grieving over their Dear Leader'! The boss told 'm to fake emotion. Or else. So that's what they did. It was simply an outsourced cortège. Xtians hire a choir for a church funeral. Etc. Etc.

And wasn't cheerleading originally an American 'invention'?

Thank you, mods.

While I'd love to take credit for cheerleaders as an american invention, I'm pretty sure that one goes to the first group of women who stood on the sidelines of a battlefield making noise, throwing rocks, and baring their breasts at the enemy. A common battlefield tactic the world over.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Except the Ipad is far more important that the Dear Leader ever was.
