I don't see how opening up an image editor isn't the easiest way. All good image editors allow you to put text on images. The image in question is on your computer already, since you said you wanted it to be "custom" which implies it is not a standard meme image but instead is one of your own.

I don't see how it is easier to upload it to a meme site which simply mimics the functionality of the image editor (but only for adding text), and then expect the meme site to delete it after you are done.

Primarily because I don't have any image editing software installed on this laptop, nor am I particularly proficient with it. LOL
