Objections to the April Fools Day prank.

Looking from the outside in on this unfortunate turn of events, it appears that there is a lot of valuable humility and understanding to be gained behind the flagrant remarks from both sides. The April Fools joke seems to be the catalyst which ignited the deeply held opinions on the subjects of fairness, trust, equality, etc. among the members of the forum. What's done is done, but perhaps we can all take what was given as a bit to chew on.

Emotions are blind and temporary, but the meaning behind them isn't so much so.

I wasn't just talking about April Fool's Day. I was talking about how it just highlighted a bigger issue. Also it being an April Fool's Day is not an excuse when it went on for 3 weeks. I was talking about how it's basically OK for mods to break the rules and insult people, then just claim it was a joke. A joke is not non-malicious when the target of the joke is not OK with it.
"Sisters, you know only the north; I have traveled in the south lands. There are churches there, believe me, that cut their children too, as the people of Bolvangar did--not in the same way, but just as horribly. They cut their sexual organs, yes, both boys and girls; they cut them with knives so that they shan't feel. That is what the Church does, and every church is the same: control, destroy, obliterate every good feeling. So if a war comes, and the Church is on one side of it, we must be on the other, no matter what strange allies we find ourselves bound to."

OK, so when did any of our trolls insult other members?

Its not like the people who were being insulted were innocent. Many people including myself insulted the accounts before they did the same. And even then they were pretty mild. The rules were relaxed for us to. If they were real theists I imagine a couple of us would have had some warnings.

Mind, I did give a "numb-brain" back so I had some fun of my own though I still hadn't twigged!

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I realize, AA that I am the mod you speak of when you talk about insulting. I went off the handle after months of dealing with it, to avoid banning a member that has been here for a significant amount of time. I will not apologize for it and I clearly did not get a get out of jail free card. I was reamed in a personal way by said member who I should have banned months ago and the one Tibs banned last night, among others. Now, as for being banned, check the rules, howdy. Provoked insults are not necessarily against the rules. The staff reserves the right to consider every individual instance. Whateverist's attacks were not provoked. Unless, of course, you consider White Knight syndrome provokable or a personal choice.

1. I don't think Tiberius has used that argument- I think other people have used that argument for him, and AA has gotten words and people all blended together in his head.

2. I agree. It was a joke. The socks insulted me (and people in general), so I wasn't happy, but I dealt with it. Now that it's over, I find it funny, and I'm not bothered by it any more. Whatever underlying, long-standing issues it called up, I'm not a part of, so I can't argue one way or the other about those.

3. There's no call for flame-baiting. Tiberius says that Whateverist deserved to be banned, and I believe him, because thus far he's seemed like a good, fair administrator.

Also, I am not pretending to be female, this profile picture is my wonderful girlfriend. XD

Again, I was talking about how it just highlighted a bigger issue. I did not see the April Fool's jokes, but I did read the linked thread about what happened. I didn't say anything your trolls did was ban-able, but creating sock puppets is against the rules, and it was done weeks before April Fool's, so that it was an April Fool's joke is not a valid reason. That is due to the fact that it is not an April Fool's joke if it is started before April Fool's. Preparing is one thing, but actually carrying it out is another.

That's the only problem I had with the April Fool's joke. Now the other non-rules related problem is the issue of trust of many members that was violated. Even for me, this is just another disappointing action on behalf of the mods and the site in general. Given the history of instigation by the mods, this was just one more thing that lowered my trust.

The issues outside of the April Fool's joke are, well, outside of the April Fool's joke, but they are related to the controversy, and I think it is important that we discuss them.

RE: Objections to the April Fools Day prank.
The reason we did this joke is because our desire to do something entertaining/fun for you guys was greater than our desire to not break the trolling rule. So, those of you who are angry or think that what we did is wrong should forgive us because our intentions were good, at least. We didn't have any malice intention behind this prank. It did get a little blown out after it was over, but we didn't want any of this to happen. Also, we have never done this before and never plan to do it again either. This was the one and only time that we did such a thing, and it was for fun, on April Fool's day.

And the reason we created our sock puppets weeks before April Fool's was so that it would be less obvious to others that the whole thing was a prank.
