Your roommate is an atheist, are you saying he is incapable of doing anything without religion? Perhaps he should test your dumb idea by not paying the rent for the next year or so.

Calypso, you could talk about the higher divorce rates among believers vs atheists or incarceration rates or compare the highly religious US to the far less religious Norway in areas like crime rate, poverty levels, education levels and such.

You could include something relating to religion and crime, for example how there is a higher proportion of religious people in prison than out in many countries, or how the Vatican City has one of the world's highest crime rates.

That's due to their small population and high amount of tourists. Most of it seems to be petty crime committed by visitors:
