Imprisoned with Christians for a day.

RE: Imprisoned with Christians for a day.
I'd probably just try to steer the topic to something we agree on, like music or movies or literature - arguing about something when you're locked up with someone when neither of you are likely to change your mind sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.
"No-one who decides that scientific evidence is not for him and that his own experience or the stories of others is the be all and end all of deciding what's true ever has the right to call people searching for reliable, repeatable evidence narrow-minded. That is hypocrisy of the most laughable kind." Derren Brown - Tricks of the Mind.

This is what I would do... I would tell them that while in the cell together, no religion or anti-religion... And if they start professing their religions, I would start doing satanic rituals and then remind them how beneficial it would be to co-exist and make the subject a non-discussion.. However, It wouldn't bother me to see them pray or whatever, but if they started to try and get me involved, well that is when it becomes a problem.

I think myself as most people would try to reason with them... However, once i realized that wouldn't work (it never does) I'd probably start getting angry at them for being so close minded... About this time my rage would boil over and i'd be sending them to their "heaven", also known as shock as the blood empties from their bodies onto the floor!

...As in, my entire life? Just, for one more day?

I'd snap like a dried twig and nobody would come away from that place looking good. To this day I swear that I only kept my sanity by a single day.

If you're talking about normal christians I would be fine. They don't tend to preach too much.

If we're talking about the crazy ones then I'd be testing my acting skills all weekend. It can't be hard to act like a zombie.
This is stupid

In my experience even your basic moderate, grassroots, non-evangelising xtian seems unable to resist the occasional preachy urge, like a kind of Jesus Tourette's. At least when faced with such I had to option to walk away whenever I liked. Were I to be trapped with them in the proposed scenario I'd probably spend the day banging my forehead against the wall, or sitting on the floor in the furthest corner possible from them, clutching my knees to my chest, staring into space and moaning to myself. All involuntary actions, to be sure, but satisfyingly worthwhile relative to actually having to interact with them. Plus there's the added bonus of keeping them well away from me - particularly if I can incorporate drooling in some way (I do a good drool when I have to; but that's another story for another time).

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

This doesn't bother me. I couldn't give a fuck about what they think or feel is true and neither does reality.

Its not my job to go around crushing the beliefs and faith of every theist I come across. They often do that all by themselves trying to prove their sky daddy exists and the smart ones eventually deconvert, leaving their imaginary friends behind them.

I can't speak for you though. But not all the reason in the world will change a devout believer who's invested a lot into their religious concepts in a single day. Argue all you want, but you won't gain any ground and you'll have to realise expecting them to let go of their indoctrinated security blanket that is their god instantly, just like that, is simply unrealistic.

Even if the Christians you're dealing with aren't -batshit crazy- remember, deconversion is a painfully long-drawn out mental process that can take years. Unless you want them committing suicide during this exercise you need to bolster them up with anti-nihilist outlooks about our world first. Help them care about what really matters. If you going to de-construct what they view as 'the source of all their pleasure and joy' [God/Jesus], then be supportive by filling that void with secular sources of the awe of our natural vast and complex universe first.

Doesn't matter that they are Christians. My intention would be to find a friend and have a good time with them Smile

Failing that... escaping into my imagination is always fun Smile

Well, not always...

It also depends on the terms of the imprisonment Thinking

Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word
