I've known enough 6 year old kids (raised one myself) that I can certainly relate to the urge to cuff the little bastards.
Still... I didn't do it and think this incident was way over the top.

Look on the bright side, at least they didn't taze or shoot him.

That's because it was in Georgia and not Texas.

Quote:According to the police report, Johnson's combative behavior included throwing furniture, including a small shelf, which struck the principal on the leg.
The child was also observed "biting the doorknob of the office and jumping on the paper shredder."
The report stated Johnson also "attempted to break a glass frame above the shredder."
"I noticed the damage to school property and possible assault of other students and staff," the responding officer said in the report.
I don't think this was a matter of race.. Looks like the punishment fit the crime to me.

It's not a matter of race. It's more a serious problem of liability. When violence escalates and people get hurt (which includes the child herself) people can be sued. This is why the police had to get involved. The school does not want a "he said she said" situation on their hands. They need to show that they did measures to protect the child, other children, and staff.
My kids went to a mostly white elementary school in a neighborhood of very expensive houses. The cops had to be called a few times. One of these times I know for sure it was about a child, other times I suspect this. School officials can't talk about these things. I learn from witnessing the situation while I'm doing something at the school.
