Both space and time started expanding. Now some people say this isn't true and time is infinite and strings / brane worlds exist...blah blah blah. In case you missed it, here is one of the best documentaries on it for the layperson
Brilliant documentary, saw it a while back ... Brian Cox is awesome and I only have one question ... how the hell can he be a professor at his age?
