Ever been to an inner-city soup kitchen?

A soup-kitchen is not a bloody church. Key difference there. Plus, soup-kitchens aren't just for christians.

Duh. That was the whole point. Many of those soup kitchens are associated with churches yet aim to help the communities. They may offer church services, but that is only a small portion of what those churches offer.

I've been reading this. I decided to look up the soup kitchen I used to volunteer at. (I don't anymore).

Yep. Started by churches.

But on the plus side, none of them tried to prosyletize. Which was cool.

"Corruption is irrelevant and as is excessive use. Helping people is not a good enough criteria for providing tax exemption, since, as we see, churches don't necessarily help people and pharmaceuticals do. So why do you think those institutions should be tax exempt?"

This was the post that prompted the response you quoted. If you are going to whine about someone not following along, it is best you take your own advise.

No, it really wasn't.

So, late addendum, as far as non-profits and whether or not that should deflect criticism. I run a non-profit, and I turn a greater (personal) profit from this than the large majority of US citizens can cobble together in "for-profit" wages.

Not-for-profit definitely doesn't mean that no profit is being made, not by a longshot.
