Hello
Hi,
My name is Thea and I'm an Atheist.
I was born 53 years ago.. a Jew, grew up with Italian Catholics, became a Spiritualist Minister in my early 20s,
still interested in Buddhism (most Buddhist don't believe in god).

And I'm tired on not being able to express my 'beliefs'.

I am a Tai Chi practioner and go to class at least twice a week. Sometimes we go out afterward for Pizza and Beer.
This week we did, and god was brought up in passing. I mumbled under my breath to the person sitting next to me that I was an Atheist only to be told that in certain circumstances I would believe in god.. and she knew this to be true.

My 2 children are atheists as well.. and, at least I can be me when I'm with them.

So.. I look for places where I'm not looked at like some ignorant person because of my non belief.

RE: Hello
Welcome to the forums Thea....I "believe" it's safe to say that we have all went through the same scenario in which you wrote of; in feeling out of place a time or two when gathered with others who believe in a sky daddy.

I can't count the number of times someone has mentioned to me the, "Believing in "God" in certain circumstances. I usually get the death bed or close to death tale of calling out "God".

I usually tell them that, "If it makes them sleep better at night to believe such nonsense or whatever floats your boat" phrases. Also the fact of, that there are few, if any, recorded instances where an atheists has called out to a "Christian God" (Or whatever) when on their death bed or near death etc. It's truly just something preachers like to say during sermons to make a congregation happy.

Personally, I like to think that they say it to make themselves feel better about believing in such obviously written and passed down fairy tales...

Again, welcome to the forums, there are a lot of good people here....Smile

Doesn't this type of hobby attract this type of person? / Why the surprise?

I'm just worried that you wish to escape real life. What other people think of us shouldn't bother us if we're sure of our position.

A warm welcome Smile

RE: Hello
I am having the weirdest day today. I just watched a speech by Gordon Brown that I enjoyed, and now I find myself agreeing for the most part with Fr0d0. Smile

Anyway, a very warm welcome from me as well Thea. I hope you enjoy your stay.

Greetings, Thea, and welcome to the forums.

Where the hell do you live, that you are not able to express your beliefs?

Or did you mean in the sense of being able to express your beliefs without having to hear someone express theirs in reply?

Personally, it's not God I dislike, it's his fan club I can't stand.
