Your creativity and skills are being murderd

Not sure if I should of posted this here, because it's one of my many, many brainfarts I would like to share. Did I mention many yet?

I was looking at one of my old report cards from my high school the other day and realized something verry wrong.
I think the school systems as we know it in the western worlds, have destroyed individuality and still are destroying it, or rather ruining it.

Here is how. When I went to school, I had to focus on crap I was shit at. My report card said:

Biology - 8.4
Maths - 5.5
Crafts - 9
Economics - 5.5
Physiscs - 6.5
Sociology - 8.9
German - 6.7
English - 7.7
Dutch - 6.8
Sports - 6

Now this is a very avarage report card. It is actualy the real one. But you can clearly see what I was best at. But school put me in extra lessons for maths and economics. What the fuck, WHY?! I though to myself. Why did they force me to focus on the things I hated most. I was shit at it, I didn't want to these subjects either.
They still do this today. Here anyway. It starts with elementry schools. That's when you shouldn't be doing things you don't like and crap your terrible at. I'm not talking about the first 2 years of elemtry school by the way.
I know why they do this now. Over here, schools get money for when people pass their exams. You need to pass all the subjects, otherwise you'll fail the exam and the school won't get any money.

I feel cheated by this. I wish they would of put me in extra clases for biology and crafts. Because then I probably wouldn't of been wasting time on typing all of this and be doing something i'm good at.

I believe everyone can be a specialist in some way or another. I actually learnt more about the things I don't like and the things i'm shit at, by doing the things I like and that i'm better at. Because i'm still not really good or a "specialist" if you will, with anything... yet.

I'm just wondering how many people there are doing things they don't like. How many people have been cheated into doing things they aren't good at. The focus is always on what you're shit at. It's no wonder people have performance anxiety.

In order to achieve a broad level of competence across multiple subjects. I do things I don't like all the time...but I'm married...so I don't know whether or not that counts...

There is an odd little thing, I have often found that true masters of a subject or craft, or any endeavour have often been those without any natural attributes for their subject.

Why not have lessons economy? I think the basic Idea behind a highschool is to give you "basic" knowlege. The broader that spectrum of knowlege is, the better.
I guess if you have the required traits needed in whatever field in arts you want to work in, you will do that, or eaven study it later.

I`m greatfull for every little bit of knowlege I can auquire, eaven if I cant use it in what I want to do and\or in my profession.

Why not have lessons economy? I think the basic Idea behind a highschool is to give you "basic" knowlege. The broader that spectrum of knowlege is, the better.
I guess if you have the required traits needed in whatever field in arts you want to work in, you will do that, or eaven study it later.

I`m greatfull for every little bit of knowlege I can auquire, eaven if I cant use it in what I want to do and\or in my profession.

Because then I didn't care for economics. If I were to become realy good at say for instance crafts, I would at one point I have to be to sell my crafts for a living. Why not learn about economics then? I'll have far more motivation to learn something like this, bacause it supporting my very being.

They're trying to give you a fundamental understanding of each topic. It's understandable that you would need extra classes in the areas you scored the lowest on. This is how we improve all our skills. Economics, in my book, is a more worthy class than "Crafts".

Ahh because at a younger age one is more likely to better learn things? Can agree on that. Were you interested in crafts but didn`t have the opertunity to go to a school specialised on such?

Say if your daughter were to love dancing, would you not take her to a dance school? What if she became focussed on it and made her proffecion out of it. Why would she need to know all these things that do not matter to her and cloud her creativity.

Dance school is something you do in your free time, or you what until you're old enough to honestly commit yourself to a profession. Suggesting that someone only stick to the things they are good at during their school days isn't a good idea. The world is a complicated place and dance school won't equip you with the skills necessary to deal with it.

Well at a younger age I was more fascinated by the nature around me (biology) and building stuff from wood and metal (crafts). I once even atempted to make my own submarine. But it sunk when I put it in the water. So I made a long rectangle of wood with glass on the bottom so I could still see what was at the bottom of the fosse.

So one thing led to another. So you don't just learn ONE thing. It's actually many, but in a differnt way.
