SUSY in hospital?

SUSY in hospital?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-20300100

Quote:Supersymmetry theorises the existence of more massive versions of particles that have already been detected.

Their existence would help explain why galaxies appear to rotate faster than the Standard Model would suggest. Physicists have speculated that as well as the particles we know about, galaxies contain invisible, undetected dark matter made up of super particles. The galaxies therefore contain more mass than we can detect and so spin faster.

Researchers at the LHCb detector have dealt a serious blow to this idea. They have measured the decay between a particle known as a Bs Meson into two particles known as muons. It is the first time that this decay has been observed and the team has calculated that for every billion times that the Bs Meson decays it only decays in this way three times.

If superparticles were to exist the decay would happen far more often. This test is one of the "golden" tests for supersymmetry and it is one that on the face of it this hugely popular theory among physicists has failed.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Interesting article, thanks for posting. I'm still trying to recover from reading recently about the theory that every black hole contains another universe. For some reason that makes lot of sense to me. I've got to find that article.

That's a beautiful notion. Please do share the article if you can find it. Of course, I could look for it myself, but I'm not only a godless heathen but a bloke as well; I'm obliged to do everything arse about face.
Smile

Thanks, just skimming it now and it looks intriguing. Interestingly, when I was probably about ten or so, I played with the idea that our Universe was inside a black hole. I knew very little about black holes and certainly nothing of the physics involved, my speculations were based on nothing more than an attempt to account for why space is black and the motions of galxies through space, of which I was aware due to my parents encouraging my interest in astronomy from a young age. If only I'd pursued the idea seriously, instead of sidetracking into a lifelong investigation into the more interesting things my body can do.

Actually, our current universe was created on a back lot of Paramount Pictures in the 1940s in order to undo the defeat of the Allies by the Axis powers in World War II. FACT.
