From what I can tell, German kept it mostly in context, but I would recommend exiting this thread and joining a thread more conducive to your sensibilities. It would seem rather clear to me that a man of your sensitive nature might want to steer clear of this thread based solely on the Thread Title.

Anyway, the particular misquote was "but...... atheists are 10 year olds and irrational". I did not call atheists irrationa., I said that the comments on this particular thread was not befitting of those that describe themselves as rational, and that they should behave better in future if they want to retain that good reputation (obviously in not so many words). I also did not call atheists 10 year olds (although I'm sure some are). I said that many commenters on this post were behaving like 10 year olds. That is entirely deifferent.

Wow. I signed up to this forum believing I was going to have some intelligent conversation. This is the first post I look at and the only sensible replies are coming from those defending Muslims. The rest of you are like a bunch of 10 year olds bitching about something you know very little about. I thought atheists claimed to be the 'rational' ones? Well maybe you should start acting like it. A group of religious figures in Saudi Arabia have threatened to strike the labor minister who seeks to create jobs for women with “deadly prayers.” They threatened to pray that he gets cancer like his predecessor Ghazi al-Gosaibi, who died of the disease in 2010.

During a meeting at the labor ministry on Tuesday, about 200 religious figures accused Minister Adel Fakeih of executing a “Westernization” plan and asked him to ban women from working in lingerie shops within a month or he will face their dangerous prayers.

An example of intolerance, mysogyny and superstition based on Islamic teachings.

Are you surprised that sometimes our "rational" side finds this exasperating?

Are you surprised that the constant attempts by theists of all stripes to drag us back to the 14th Century illicits some choice phrases?

This is made easier by dint of the fact that he included your post intact in his reply. Just like I did here. Hi I can promise I didn't come here to be offended, and incidentally I'm not offended. I was commenting on the way people were commenting, not on their opinions. I agree we are all human and yes even intelligent and rational people must become exasperated, frustrated and emotional occasionally. However, I was surprised that this article prompted that reaction. After all these were not teachings of Islam but moreso over-conservative socio-political views with Islam as an excuse. You don't need to do much research or know much about Islam to realise that. Secondly, to atheists this was surely more laughable than worrying? They were going to pray the guy to death?! Even to many Muslims that sounds rather silly.

They were conservative what now....oh yes muslims....so that would make there decisions made for religious reasons.....you can do this....that's right Islamic. Or are they "not true Muslims tm"

Praying to death is childish and ridiculous however its the sentiment and atmosphere in these backward countries hat this sort of thing engenders that is the worry.

And people who lose favour to Islamic Imams have a nasty habit of getting injured, not through prayer but by bullets and knives and bombs.

It is to me. For what it's worth and based on your replies to me I don't think it's too late to make a better account of yourself than you started with. Sure you may have blotted your copybook in some people's eyes, but we've all been there at some point (hi guys!) and we generally run out of steam before too much harm has been done.

Ask yourself this: is this the way you imagined the conversation to go before you signed up? Is this what you pictured yourself doing today?

I can only say that Islam does not forbid women to work and by it's nature would encourage women to sell lengerie rather than men (although there is not specific law on this, that would be in 'the spirit of the law' as we say in this country). You can say that's not a good enough excuse for Islam if you like, but personally I think it is.

I'm afraid I can't promise I would have changed my original post if I had my time again. I admit I come accross as arrogant when I don't intend to. Ii accept that maybe I need to go on a self-expression course or maybe even a simple writing course. So I can only apologise in advance if I ever come accross as patronising in the future!
