Well, the tooth fairy is harvesting teeth, so maybe they're working together. He needed a rib to create Eve, so I guess he needs to take peoples' body parts on occasion to fuel his magical powers. He was never the same after creating the universe, I gues it took a lot out of him. Wink

I do not think it is insensitive at all, if you know the recipient of the comment is also Christian. I also do not give a flying fuck if people say thank god. I say it and I have never believed in god. It is an expression of relief. It sure beats them saying goddammit. Sorry, it's just that with all the things we can possibly pissed about, this doesn't even register as a blip on my radar. If they explicitly said that god found her and not the searchers, then I might be slightly peeved. The people out looking for that kid most likely weren't looking for thanks. Finding the kid was likely thanks enough. I guess my point is that you should probably relax a little.

My point is they weren't saying, "Thank God". I say that too sometimes. But their literal words were, "thank you jesus 4 finding these children!!!" and "thank you Lord" and "God is good".

If I were one of the men/women who searched for those missing children and came to find those comments, it'd upset me.

Anyway, I am relaxed, hahaha. It's not like I go around all day bothered by it. Just something I wanted to write on here.

I just don't find it "disgusting" for the reasons I already cited. If it makes them happy, it does not matter. I know that if I were looking for a kid and found it, I wouldn't give a shit who got the credit.

I didn't know so many people died everyday, i remember in the song "don't fear the reaper" it was "40 000 men and women everyday"

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Yes, but that song was written how long ago? Considering the drastic rise in the Earth's population over the past few decades, it's perfectly feasible that there were only 40,000 deaths per day in 1976. Or maybe the other 210,000 didn't qualify as "men and women" because they were the children that just didn't get prayed for hard enough...

Yeah, I'm inlined to agree with the OP on this. I had an emergency appendectomy a couple of weeks ago, and I'm while they respect my non-belief enough to not bring it up, I'm sure my family thinks God had a hand in me getting to the hospital in time. But if anyone deserves thanks, it's the coworker who convinced me to let her take me to the hospital after I'd been having abdominal cramps all day, or those responsible for the efficiency of said hospital so that I was taken care of right away and thus already about to have my MRI when my appendix ruptured instead of sitting in a chair waiting to be processed, or the doctors who were nonetheless able to remove it via laparascopy instead of an incision so that I was only out of work for two weeks instead of two months.

If anything, I'd say God would be worthy of thanks if humans didn't have things like an appendix, tonsils, wisdom teeth, etc. in the first place...or at the very least if such things didn't have the potential to cause life-threating health problems.

It's a little annoying, I suppose. I don't really care as long as the person they are talking about isn't/wasn't Christian. Then it pisses me off. Like if(when) my grandfather dies, if people dare say "Well, he's in a better place now" I will get very angry.
"I trust my own reason and my own capacities to think and educate myself and to reach greater levels of knowlege and status through learning and work. To me, wishing for a god is like wishing to be a slave, it is like declaring that one is too incompetent to handle one's own affairs." - the germans are coming
